Paradise on Pico Assisted Living Facility was created solely as a tribute to my mother, Minister Shirlie Scoggins Sullivan. My spouse and I were honored to have had the opportunity to care for her as she LIVED with cancer. In my mother’s true zest for life she embodied the phrase, “Living with cancer” because although her body was declining, her joy, musical talent and beautiful smile never failed. It was during the year-long sharing of love that we discovered how emotional, taxing and expensive caring for a loved one can be.
As a tribute to my mother, I want to duplicate the care and love that we provided her and create a home for others by providing room, board, housekeeping, supervision, and personal care assistance with basic activities like personal hygiene, dressing, eating and walking. Additionally, we will centrally store and distribute medications for residents to self-administer.
Fortunately, as a registered nurse for almost 4 decades with a master’s and doctorate in Public Health, I am familiar with both resident care needs and navigating the turbulent waters of the healthcare system.
The level of care and supervision is for people who are unable to live by themselves but who do not need 24 hour nursing care. We are considered a non-medical facility and are not required to have nurses, certified nursing assistants or doctors on staff. Paradise On Pico meets care and safety standards set by the State and is licensed and inspected by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing (CCL).
In the final minutes of my mother’s life she looked directly into my eyes and said, “We are a team”. It is in her sweet, sweet spirit that we invite you to tour our home and consider joining our team. You are not a stranger you are just a dear friend we haven’t yet met. We look forward to meeting you.
